Whew! It has been a while since my last post! Lets just say I have been a bit busy prepping to inspire! Since the last time we’ve interacted on the blog space I’ve been teaching a pre-calculus course at the University of Michigan, working on my upcoming book, and I’ve been appointed as the Detroit Director of Youth Services. These three projects are parts of my overall vision that I refer to as milestones along the path of my purpose.
Vision & Milestones
A man’s or woman’s vision is his/her ability to peer into the future and see one’s ideal situation. Milestones are those benchmarks along the journey that keep you on track to make your vision a reality (cited from Shawn Blanchard’s dictionary). Do you have a vision? Have you created milestones yet? Think of a marathon. It’s 26.2 miles long. Every mile there is a marker that keeps you on course, at a specific pace, and those markers give you confidence that you are getting closer to completing your goal. Now think of a marathon without mile markers (milestone). Better yet, think of mile markers without a set ending (vision). In either situation the risk of running out of gas, veering off course, or possibly stoping all together is heightened! We can’t play around with the marathon! It’s difficult as it is! Whether we like it or not we are all runners in life. Moreover, it’s in our best interest to have a vision and milestones. Take a day or two and really peer into your future to create your ideal situation (better known as your vision). Do a bit of backwards planning and jot down your milestones that will keep you on track. You may run into a detour, you may bump into a short cut, but whatever you do don’t stop running!
I’m a fan of sharing my vision and milestones with my close friends. It keeps me accountable and I strongly urge you to do the same. With that said, I’m sharing some of my milestones with you! My three projects that I mentioned above are outlined below in more detail, but let me take a moment to shout out Schure Media Group (SMG). SMG is a premier PR firm that represents the likes of Beyonce, Prince, Will Smith, and even the Oprah Network to name a few (www.schuremediagroup.com). Recently, I’ve been signed to them and it’s humbling and exciting! To be among the line up of these hard working individuals puts fuel in my gas tank! Detroit City Mayor Mike Duggan appoints Shawn Blanchard as The Director of Youth Services
Shawn Blanchard, motivational speaker and author, has been appointed to be the Director of Youth Services for the city of Detroit. Shawn has the primary responsibility of maximizing the benefits of City Services to young people in the city and to assist city leaders, including the Mayor, in assuring a quality of life that supports the healthy growth, development, and self-empowerment of our young citizens. The ultimate goal is to improve the likelihood of the youth growing up to be healthy and productive citizens who contribute to the well-being of their community. Shawn’s first two objectives will be to supply 5,000 jobs for Detroit teens in the summer of 2015 and to create a Detroit Elementary School Soccer League in the fall of 2014.
Raised on the streets of Detroit, Shawn Blanchard once viewed his circle of friends and family as the most influential cast of actors in his life, until it was all shattered by jail and death, he now serves as a positive role model for young and old alike working on projects in the community, co-leading an exercise movement and serving as an educator at the University of Michigan.
Shawn firmly believes that we all have it in us to become successful positive forces in our own lives as well as others. You can read Shawn’s story in his first book coming out in 2015 titled, “How ‘Bout That For A Crack Baby” Anything is still possible in America.
